We might be a little bias, but an exhibition dedicated entirely to British watchmaking sounds like a lot of fun. On Saturday 9, March 2024 at Lindley Hall in Westminster London, that’s exactly what is taking place. The Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers has announced their first exhibition devoted to showing off the work of its Trade members, and it is suitably named British Watchmakers’ Day.

Since founding the Alliance we’ve welcomed over 80 trading British watch and clock companies to our community. We’re enjoying a major resurgence of British watchmaking and it’s time for us to make a statement with an event which is dedicated to our member brands” said Alistair Audsley, CEO of the Alliance.

We’re witnessing it firsthand: there’s an exciting resurgence in British watch and clock making right now. More than ever before, British made watches are emerging and creating innovative and beautiful watches that are rivalling those overseas. The Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers was founded in response to this back in November 2020, launching as a platform to help encourage and guide members, whether that be well-established watchmakers or entirely new start-ups.

For the first time, the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers is holding an event dedicated to British watchmaking and will host over 40 British watch brands plus several media partners. British Watchmakers’ Day 2024 will take place Saturday, 9 March 2024 at Lindley Hall (Royal Horticultural Halls) in Westminster.

It’s going to be a fantastic space for horologists, both new and seasoned alike, to meet like-minded individuals who share a love of watchmaking. For collectors especially, a real highlight of the event will be the several Special Edition watches created by exhibitors. These editions have been made exclusively available to guests at British Watchmakers’ Day. Alliance chairman, Roger W Smith, who has a notably lengthy waiting list for his rare watches will be launching a Series One watch available especially on British Watchmakers’ Day.

Roger speaks on the event; “My hope is that British Watchmakers’ Day will become an annual event as we try to raise awareness of our sector around the world. I wanted to make clear just how much this event means to me and that’s why I’ve committed to build one of my own watches especially for the event”.

Mike France, Alliance co-founder and CEO of Christopher Ward has made a similar commitment. “We’re sure that Special Edition watches will be a focal point in what promises to be a historic day for British watchmaking. At Christopher Ward we’re making a special edition version of our Bel Canto watch, which has a global waiting list.”

There will also be number of media partners attending including ourselves here at Watch Gecko Magazine. So, if you’re planning on visiting the exhibition, take a break from perusing the many watch brands on show and come and say hi!
