Seiko have today launched a three-reference extension to their popular collection of Seiko Prospex Solar Speedtimer Chronograph’s. Offered with technical specifications similar to previous models, the three new timepieces are now presented with Grey, Black and Cream dials.
Originally introduced back in 1969, Seiko’s Speedtimer was at the time a significant milestone for chronograph innovation. As one of the world’s first automatic chronographs, the Seiko Speedtimer came to be somewhat iconic in the 1970’s as its precision signified significant advancements in the manufacture of automatic wristwatches.

Seiko finally cemented their place amongst the well-established, predominantly Swiss, giants of the watch world when they disrupted the industry by moving out of mechanical territory and into the modern realm of quartz and solar-powered watches. In 2022 eager fans saw the Japanese brand extend these technologies to their beloved Speedtimer collection, with new models finally being released that were inspired by the quirky designs of the 1970’s but were newly equipped with modern solar movements.
The original Seiko Speedtimer incorporated a Tachymeter on the bezel for measuring speed and as such, went hand in hand with motorsports as they too came to be a prevalent part of 70’s culture. In commemoration of this special relationship, the newly released Seiko Speedtimer Solar models are a nod to vintage muscle cars, circuit racing and the lightweight sports cars of a bygone era. Aptly named ‘Grand Touring’, ‘Circuit Race’ and ‘Racing Sports’, the new references are offered on an optional black punched calf leather strap for the first time in Seiko Speedtimer history.

Equipped with the solar-powered V192, the new Speedtimer chronograph models are accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month and can maintain a full charge for 6 months. Incorporating hour and minute hands that resemble the original design of the 1969 Speedtimer, the three new models also showcase the iconic Tachymeter bezel that has been beloved since the Speedtimer was launched forty-five years ago.
