The Olympic Games 2024 is right around the corner now and with final preparations taking place in Paris as we speak, now feels like a good time to remind ourselves of OMEGA’s contribution to the proceedings. As is tradition, OMEGA have already unveiled two new and exclusive editions for the Paris Olympic Games which will follow in the footsteps of the previously released Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Tokyo 2020 Edition.
OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024
Up first is the new Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 Edition, crafted to achieve precise timing, the 43mm model is presented in the gold, black and white colourway associated with Paris 2024. The dial offers an impressive three timing scales (tachymeter, pulsometer and telemeter) in a 1940’s “snail” design as well as blackened subdials, Arabic numerals in 18k Moonshine Gold™ and leaf-shaped subdial hands.
The Speedmaster Chronoscope is equipped with OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9908 offering a 60-hour power reserve and METAS-certified precision. Flip the Speedmaster over and you’ll find an interesting commemorative caseback, finished with frosted base and mirror-polished Paris 2024 logo, as well as the Olympic Rings.
OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m Paris 2024
The second of the two exclusive Olympic Games editions for this year is the Seamaster Diver 300m Paris 2024 Edition. Going for gold just as the qualifying competitors are, the Paris 2024 Edition Seamaster is crafted in stainless steel and 18k Moonshine Gold™. The gold bezel also features a laser-structured diving scale. Presented with a white ceramic, laser-engraved dial with matte finish, the exclusive Seamaster utilises the Paris 2024 typography in its date display at 6 o’clock and the central seconds hand carries a subtle Paris 2024 emblem.
Similarly, the Seamaster Paris 2024 Edition features a commemorative caseback, this time decorated with an 18k Moonshine Gold™ medallion. The Seamaster Diver 300m is powered by OMEGA’s 8800 caliber which has once again been tested and certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
Omega Olympic Games Technology
Having been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympics since 1932, Tokyo 2020 saw the luxury Swiss brand celebrate their 30 th year in this honourable role. Taking with them 550 timekeepers and on-site professionals, 900 trained volunteers, 350 tonnes of equipment, 350 sport-specific scoreboards, 85 public scoreboards and 200km of cables and optic fibre, as well as 90 years of experience as Olympic timekeepers into the heart of the French capital, it’s safe to say that this time around the brand are back and better than ever.
Responsible for not only measuring the results that distinguish between gold, silver and bronze medals, OMEGA are also expected to deliver in-depth data and analytics throughout the competition to help better understand how each event is won or lost. Alongside ground-breaking moments in sporting history over the years, OMEGA have painstakingly advanced their own technologies. Having previously hand-delivered humble stopwatches to the hosting city, since 2012 the Swiss brand has been able to replace these somewhat outdated instruments with quartz-driven Quantum Timers. This year they will also bring with them newly developed Scan ‘O’ Vision ULTIMATE and Computer Vision Technology, used to track athletes, provide metrics and tell the story of each sporting event.
You can catch OMEGA at the starting line from Friday 26 th July – Sunday 11 th August and we’ll be right there alongside them. Stay tuned with WatchGecko for all the Olympic Games content to come and in the meantime, drop us a comment telling us which Olympic event you’re most looking forward to and you could win a £100 gift card!
