Another instalment of our ever-popular Strap Showcase has arrived!

The Seiko SKX is probably one of the most talked-about Seiko models available today. Released in the 90s, it has been the go-to beater watch or first mechanical watch for many. But it is only available on a rubber strap or a jubilee style bracelet. As you probably know by now, we love changing straps out on watches to make even the most popular watches more individual.

Today, let’s talk about strap suggestions for the Seiko SKX and six solid options that can really transform and upgrade the watch.

So, as always, before we get into the straps, let’s quickly go over the things you need to consider when looking for some straps for the SKX:

  • Clearly, this is a diving watch. Purists will argue you cannot put a divers watch on anything but rubber, metal or nylon straps. However as you’ll see, a great leather strap is ideal for a more comfortable fit.
  • The 42mm width and 22mm lugs make the watch sound pretty large, however, a short lug to lug distance keeps the watch proportioned nicely on the wrist.
  • The use of colour on the SKX is very well balanced, meaning we can decide whether to pick up on this colour with straps or take a step back from it and compliment the watch.

The first option is admittedly an obvious one, but the Simple Handmade with red and blue stitching is a perfect fit for the SKX. Of course the red and blue stitching matches the pepsi bezel of the watch, but also the light brown leather used emphasises the white lume aspects of the dial.

This strap is great for casual relaxed environments where the playfulness of the watch can be fully explored. Pick one up here!

ZULUDIVER 284 Rubber Strap in Blue

This next option is more of a serious upgrade for the SKX rather than something massively different. You may be reading this with the SKX on the wrist fitted to a stiff black rubber strap.

Personally, I don’t think this makes the most of the SKX. I’d recommend picking yourself up a Blue ZULUDIVER 284 for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s blue which matches the dial and bezel a lot better. Secondly, this strap is insanely soft and supple which means its super comfortable. And finally, the overall design of the strap is a lot thinner than the standard Seiko one making the watch feel more refined.

ZULUDIVER Marine Nationale Strap in Green with Red Stripe

Next, we’ve changed it up with a Marine Nationale  in Green with the Red stripe. This is a classic go-to option if you enjoy the look of this striped military style strap. A very interesting and unique way of picking up on the red in the dial and on the rotating bezel.

ZULUDIVER Sailcloth with Red Stitching

Continuing the theme of picking out the colours of the watch, here the Sailcloth with red stitching does just that. Sailcloth material is renowned for its strong and durable properties, making it hard-wearing and resilient for water-based activities. This strap is made from water-resistant Sailcloth print PVC rubber material.

Oh, the strap also comes with quick release spring bars as well making for an easy strap changing process. Explore the strap in more detail...

Beads Of Rice Bracelet with SKX Curved Ends

Here we have one of the most popular options for the SKX and its the Beads of Rice metal bracelet with curved ends. You may notice how good the fit is on the ends of this strap, that because these ends are bespoke made for the SKX case. If you want to upgrade the jubilee that comes with the watch, you really can’t go wrong with the Beads of Rice.
