Through a new online show format called Sinn.Time.Talk, Sinn announced some extremely hard-hitting new watches...
As the state of the world continues to look the same, another watch brand has turned to video conferences to launch their latest watches for the year. This time it was Sinn and their four new models including a brand new range. There is a lot to get into here so let’s waste any more time and jump straight into it.
The New Sinn 105 Series

We’re kicking things off with something very special from Sinn in the form of a brand new range for the Germany company. The 105 series includes a three hander model with day and date function at the 6 o’clock position as well as a GMT which just has the date at 6 o'clock. These new releases truly feel news and updated for the brand. Sinn has adopted quite an impressive modern aesthetic here with a noticeable emphasis on legibility and clarity. The watch still carries everything you’d expect from Sinn with that always present lean towards purpose. We see a 24 hour bezel that is a black hard coating on a Tegiment technology basis, 200m of water resistance, a 41mm case width and an array of strap options.
This model was presented to us with the help of Raffael Zeller, an extreme sportsman who is regularly seen repping the Sinn brand.

Sinn really hit the ground running with this model offering fans of the brand a glimpse at what the future of the Sinn range could look like. For a brand with roots in creating dials for pilots and other professions this new 105 range feels almost bauhaus in how simple it looks. The execution of the day and date is stylish and ensures that desirable symmetry is kept.
Less is most certainly more here and from what I’ve seen so far, Sinn has done a cracking job.

Next up saw Susanne Schödel who is a world-record-holding Sinn wearing glider pilot who helped show us a new limited edition 103 Pilots Chronograph. This 103 Chronograph is the ultimate epitome of the German brand in a timepiece. Legible, tough and essential with a ton of information for the wearer. This latest model offers all of this information but now in a fantastic metallic green with a detailed grain dial. Susanne was pleased to see the dark dial colour and white details remain on this piece as she mentioned how key this was when flying. She spoke about how bright dials on pilots watches are difficult to see when in the air due to reflections and bright light. She found wearing a dark dial with bright white hands was much better for aerial navigation.

First thoughts
This isn't the first time we’ve seen Sinn use both green and a grained texture dial in a limited edition watch (they also did it here for the 104 last year) and it is clear to see why it has returned. The key point on these models is the matching bezel, day and date window and dial all being finished in green. The end result is a truly special looking watch that suits being a special limited edition model.

Finally, rally champion Peter Göbel arrived at the Sinn HQ in a stunning 1981 Porsche 911 RSR to help present the new R500 Racing Watch. As soon as this piece appeared on screen it was clear instantly this was a watch created purely for the drivers of the world in mind. With a slanted case design towards the wearer, the chronograph pushers and crown having been relocated to the 12 o'clock position which, as Peter confirmed, is ideal for drivers. Engaging the chronograph function when the pushers are on the expected right-hand side of the case requires more reaching and the twisting of arms when behind the wheel. However, at 12 it is always accessible. Another benefit of the 12 o'clock positioning is that both left and right-handed wearers can operate the watch in exactly the same efficiency. Although the watch is a bit of a beast size-wise, it uses grade 5 titanium so comfort remains high.

This is a bit of a beast, isn't it? There is a lot to appreciate here even if I can’t see myself adding one to the collection. The first thing is the case. Sure 13mm - 16mm thick isn’t within my normal preferences, but this isn’t a ‘normal’ watch. It’s clearly designed for the true drivers at heart. Next is the use of titanium for the case. Titanium is a metal that the general watch collector isn’t too fussed about, but the collectors who know their cars can certainly appreciate. And finally, the dial design. It is still textbook Sinn but with pops of colour on the power reserve replicating something you might expect on a car dash. There is also a modern feeling to the design of this dial. It is clean, crisp and super sharp.
I can’t help but feel one of the 300 who will end up owning this watch will end up attaching it to the dashboard of their weekend car and call it a day. If that is you, we'd love to see an image of that!
