The two-year anniversary of the original MoonSwatch release passed last month and we were left wondering if the hype was still alive. Whilst we recognized that the collaboration between Swatch and Omega had sent watch (and space) fans into a total frenzy, we just weren’t sure if that initial roaring fire had dwindled into embers two years on.
In answer to that question Swatch broke the internet, again, with the launch of their latest MoonSwatch edition; the Mission to the Moonphase. In March we watched as queues began winding around the block once more, with people travelling from near and far to get their hands on the new Bioceramic model. The Peanut’s-themed timepiece seemed to capture the hearts (and wallets) of fans almost immediately, but I guess it’s hard to say no to a sub £300 chance to get your hands on some Omega moon magic.

The first non-limited Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase saw Swatch combine a moon phase with a chronograph function for the first time in their history. As a mascot for NASA since the 1960’s, Snoopy was naturally in on the action, seen lying on the moon which moves in the subdial at 2 o’clock. Classic features from the original Speedmaster Moonwatch (notably, the first watch to go to the moon), such as the asymmetrical case, the tachymeter-scaled bezel with the dot over the 90 and the authentic Speedmaster subdials, can all be found on the new Mission to the Moonphase.
It seems that making just one iconic MoonSwatch model accessible to fans worldwide wasn’t quite enough though, as Swatch have just announced the launch of yet another model.

Well and truly keeping the frenzy alive, Swatch have today unveiled a second version of the Snoopy MoonSwatch. In celebration of the new moon, the MoonSwatch NEW MOON edition features the same Peanuts-ified moon phase on the dial, this time depicted in black with a black semi-transparent mask. Expected to be made available from Swatch stores internationally on April 8th (on the same one per person, per day, per store basis), it would be naïve of us not to acknowledge that the hype we spoke of is still very much alive.
