With the 30th anniversary of Mühle-Glashütte’s current form upcoming in 2024, the German watchmakers are returning to their roots with a limited edition iteration of their famed S.A.R Rescue-Timer.
Originally released in 2002, the S.A.R Rescue-Timer has since earned a reputation amongst professionals and watch fans alike thanks to its practical and wearable yet robust design. In January of this year, we saw the introduction of the first 1994 Edition timepiece, which arrived in the form of the 29er Big BRONZE Edition 1994. Now, twenty-two years on from its release and 12,000 sales later, 2024 will see a new S.A.R. Rescue-Timer added to the 1994 Edition family.

Just like the 1994 Edition 29er that came before it, the new S.A.R. Rescue-Timer will be produced at a limited quantity of only 155 pieces. This might seem like a number chosen at random, but it is in fact a clever nod to the German brand’s 155-years of prominence as an entrepreneur in Glashütte, where we visited them not too long ago.
Housed in a black PVD-coated 42mm stainless steel case, the 1994 Edition has its own character, distinguishable from the traditional stainless steel case of the original timepiece. In keeping with the anniversary celebrations, the 1994 Edition S.A.R.’s blue rubber bezel and matching strap have both been bedecked in Mühle blue.
Commonly used by sea rescuers on the North and Baltic Seas, the R.A.R. maintains its utilitarian capabilities with an impressive water-resistance of 100 bars and 4 millimeters of thick, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a date magnifier that has been inserted from the inside for ultimate legibility.

Newly presented with pure white indices and a bright light blue seconds hand with white tip to match the distinct 30 of the same colour within the minute track, the 1994 Edition has certainly undergone a makeover fit for this significant anniversary. On the 30th of each month, the date also appears in matching bright light blue and the 55 on the minute track has been replaced by 155, in keeping with 155-years of tradition.
In a final finishing touch to this anniversary edition, the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer is now equipped with an exclusive Mühle anniversary rotor with special engraving that has been reversed for exclusive use for the 1994 Edition models.
