Baselworld 2019: You know those watches you experience and you just can’t stop thinking about? - The thinnest chronograph watch ever, to be exact...

Bulgari is a brand who is known for creating incredibly designed pieces of jewellery for generations. When it comes to horology however they seem to have an obsession with breaking records.

Last year we had the thinnest minute repeater and the thinnest tourbillon. So 2019? Why not let’s have a new thinnest automatic chronograph WITH a GMT complication...

First up, the case diameter remains unchanged on this new Octo Finissimo coming in at 40mm wide. This isn’t a normal watch though (clearly) as the more square, right-angled design means the watch feels better framed on the wrist. The case itself is full of powerful angles and unique design cues.

There really is nothing like the aesthetic and looks of this watch. The case also integrates and involves the two chronograph pushers and the pusher to jump the hour hand forward independently.

Okay, I’ll tell you. It’s 6.9mm thick. Yes, the new Octo Finissimo with its chronograph and GMT function is just 6.9mm thick...(well thin)

In previous Octo chronographs Bulgari has relied on the helping hand of Zenith for the El Primero movement, however now they have developed this new game-changing movement.

It really doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a watch because of the thinness and because of the titanium case and bracelet (I love the bracelet design as well, I could equally talk about that for a long time. Let’s leave that for another day). At the same time, however, you just can’t help staring at it. The tones, the size, the movement with the peripheral rotor, the jet black hands (etc etc etc, naturally).

The watch truly disappears on the wrist which is amazing yet upsetting. Because all you want to do is know and feel the incredible watchmaking that has gone into this new novelty for Bulgari.

This will be one I will be counting down the days until it will be on my wrist again once more...

Bravo Bulgari, Bravo!
