Unimatic are an Italian watchmaker renowned for their ultra-clean minimalistic designs. They often forgo features like date windows and 12 o’clock logos to ensure exceptional legibility packaged in cases fitting to the dive and field genres. For their latest release however, the empty spot at 12 o’clock is filled with a new logo, one that marks a fresh collaboration.

With the launch of the Royal Enfield X Unimatic Modello Quattro U4-RE watch, Unimatic have partnered up with Royal Enfield, one of the oldest motorcycle companies in the world. Since 1901, Royal Enfield has been creating modern classic motorcycles, often characterised by their simplicity and durability. Sound familiar? In a fitting partnership, the pair have created a military field watch built to reflect the spirit of adventure and craftsmanship that both brands stand for. The design is also cleverly limited to 122 pieces, honouring the number of years since Royal Enfield was founded.

The Royal Enfield X Unimatic Modello Quattro U4-RE watch rather ingeniously combines the architecture and specs of the brand’s U4 model with design details inspired by classic motorbikes. For the first time, the U4’s 40mm-wide stainless steel case is heavily sandblasted to replicate the finish of Royal Enfield’s engine. It gives the case an undeniably robust and rugged aesthetic; one I can definitely see strapped to the wrist of a motorcyclist. The case still maintains its 300 metre water resistance, 13.9mm height and 49mm lug-to-lug width.

Despite the red Royal Enfield logo taking up the normally empty 12 o’clock position, the dial of the Royal Enfield X Unimatic Modello Quattro U4-RE watch is still clearly Unimatic. It has a glossy black backdrop with horizontal indexes at 3, 6 and 9 and a triangle marker at 12 o’clock. The other indices are round and like the sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes are adorned in Super-LumiNova® GL old radium lume.

A nice addition to dial is the gold metallic closed second rail which mimics the golden pinstripes on the classic motorbikes. Another nod to Royal Enfield is found on the case back. The screw down back is engraved with their logan “Made like a gun” alongside the model’s individual progressive number.

Fuelling the Royal Enfield X Unimatic Modello Quattro U4-RE watch is the Seiko NH35A automatic movement. It delivers hours, minutes and hacking seconds, a 41-hour power reserve and runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The novelty is finished by a black heavy-duty nylon strap with black DLC brushed hardware engraved with the Unimatic logo. You’ll also receive an extra cognac two-piece calfskin leather strap with every order of the 122-piece limited edition.
