I think it’s fairly common knowledge at this point that I’m a big fan of the Tissot PRX. These 1970’s inspired integrated sports watches have been teetering on the edge of wish list since their relaunch in 2021. I say “teetering”, because at first these watches were exclusively available with 40mm cases, first boasting quartz movements before later housing the Swatch Group’s well-known 80-hour Powermatic 80 automatic calibre.

Sadly, most 40mm cases can be a little oversized for my five-and-a-half inch wrist, so although I never tried the 40mm Tissot PRX on for size, it never quite made it to the top of my wish list. Then, as if the watch gods had been listening, the Tissot PRX 35mm made its debut in 2022 both with quartz and automatic movements. There was one particular model that immediately caught by eye: the Tissot PRX 35 Quartz “Mint Green”. The dial, which is certainly a distinctive shade of green, is less “mint” but more bright turquoise and together with the crisp integrated steel architecture has become my go-to daily watch.

Since its launch two months ago, the Tissot PRX Mint Green has barely left my wrist and I have reviewed my time with it in more detail here should you be interested. Then a couple of weeks ago, Tissot kindly reached out to the team here at Watch Gecko and asked if we’d be interested in reviewing one of their newest Tissot PRX 35mm models, this time one more directly aimed at female wrists with their coveted Powermatic 80 movement at the core. Of course, I wasn’t letting the chance to test out another Tissot PRX pass me by, so here I am with the new reference T931.207.41.111.00 by my side.

The beauty of the Tissot PRX collection, and one of the biggest reasons I have been so drawn to it, is that it’s never felt gender specific. The slender barrel-shaped cases, integrated bracelets and clean dials will happily suit wrists of most sizes and tastes. That being said, some of the newer 35mm Powermatic 80 models definitely feel more aimed at feminine palettes, one of the most obvious being the Tissot PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 Steel & Rose Gold under reference T931.207.41.111.00.

While most Tissot PRX watches are engineered entirely from stainless steel, this model brings brightly polished elements of 18ct rose gold into the mix. The bezel, which is no longer smooth but now uniquely faceted, is crafted from warm rose gold for a distinctively feminine touch. The facets along its circumference work perfectly with the array of sharp angles on the case and bracelet and catch the light for an impressive show of reflections.

The rest of the case has all the familiar features of the PRX. It sits at 35mm wide and 10.9mm tall – that’s 1.3mm taller than the quartz variant to accommodate the thicker automatic movement inside. I can confidently say this subtle increase in height is almost entirely unnoticeable, with the barrel-shaped case and integrated lugs keeping things low to the skin. The majority of the case is brushed, as are the C-shaped links of the bracelet, and a non-screw in crown sits at 3 o’clock offering a 100 metre water resistance.

Perfectly flat sapphire crystal glass is attached to both the front and back of the watch. I can’t confirm or deny the use of any anti-reflective treatment on the Tissot PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 Steel & Rose Gold watch, but I never had any problems with reflectivity during my time wearing it. The glass on the back gives you a nice view of the Powermatic 80 automatic winding movement inside including its wave-decorated rotor.

To pair with the new metal on the bezel, the dial of the Tissot PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 watch under reference T931.207.41.111.00 comes decorated with matching rose gold hardware. The stick indexes and baton hands are brightly polished, catching the light in tune with the bezel. Tissot have even nicely applied their own logo and the PRX emblem in rose gold. The date window at 3 o’clock also has its own pink gold border.

The selection of rose gold hardware is placed upon a creamy mother of pearl dial. Truthfully, I’m not someone that is ever tempted by pearl dials. I feel like they’re overdone on women’s watches at this point, but I know they’re popular with many female and male wrists. In this case, the mother of pearl definitely works, offering a subtle iridescence that joins in with the brightly polished nature of other dial and case elements. That being said, I still prefer the waffle-like pattern that is found on other Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 models. These just have more visual interest.

Finally, we can’t leave without giving a quick nod of appreciation to the Powermatic 80 movement. My decision to get the Tissot PRX 35mm Quartz was purely down to the “Mint Green” dial being only available in the smaller size with a quartz movement. This is also a watch I have purchased almost entirely for its looks, so missing out on the automatic movement didn’t feel like too much of a loss. The Powermatic 80 calibre is still a beast of a movement though, and definitely gives the Tissot PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 Steel & Rose Gold watch a lot of credibility.

The Powermatic 80 movement is best known for its weekend-proof 80-hour power reserve. Sadly, I didn’t get chance to properly test this out, since the watch stayed on my wrist for the majority of the week, but having heard of the reliability of this calibre from others, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about there. The movement has an anti-magnetic Nivachron balance hairspring, hacking seconds, 23 jewels and a frequency of 21,600vph.

The Tissot PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 Steel & Rose Gold watch is another beautiful addition to the PRX family and I have no doubt it’ll have a lot of success with female audiences. The integration of rose gold on the case and dial is a lovely touch, especially on the bezel. In images, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the new faceting on the bezel but it’s actually really nice and makes up for the loss of the waffle-like décor typically seen on the PRX Powermatic 80’s dial. The mother of pearl in its place makes sense and goes nicely with the rose gold hardware.
Would I choose this model over my own “Mint Green” quartz reference? Probably not. It definitely trumps it on the movement front, but I will always be steadfast in my obsession with the shade of turquoise used on the Mint Green model. The price also helps with the PRX 35mm Quartz retailing from £335 while reference T931.207.41.111.00 justifies its solid gold accents and automatic movement at £1,820. That still doesn’t mean I’m not upset about having to let this model go back to Tissot… if I could justify it, I’d quite happily own both in my collection.
