The special edition Boldr Odessey X Marine Genome Project (MGP) is a full titanium 40mm Odyssey Freediver professional dive watch which supports the work of the MGP, a non-profit organization with a mission to preserve the genetic diversity of the Earth's marine life and foster healthy ocean ecosystems. The team comprises professional scientists who collect DNA samples for analysis to discover new methods of understanding species evolution, ecological patterns, and potentially life-altering medicines.

In 2022, BOLDR was approached by the MGP team, initially seeking sponsorship for the project; however, after discussion, this initial call morphed into a total collaboration.
Rather than enter a simple financial arrangement, Leon Leong proposed that Boldr could support MGP with a custom-made timepiece reflecting their mission. After the proposed designs were assessed, the concept watch was built around the already impressive base of the Odessey Freediver.

The final Odessey MGP is crafted in titanium, as is every exterior element from the bezel to the bracelet. The watch, consequently, is very light, weighing in at just 130 grams. This is incredibly light for a professional dive watch that seems the perfect material to reflect a progressive organization. As a metal, titanium has very low elasticity and is challenging to work with. It is always worth the effort because a titanium watch is more robust than steel and weighs probably half as much as a steel counterpart. It is also highly resistant to salt water and corrosion and is hypoallergenic. Only the difficulty in machining titanium prevents its broader use in the watch industry, so it is only fitting that Boldr selected this material for such a unique watch.
Boldr are synonymous with outstanding luminescence. They have taken full advantage of this reputation to add DNA Helix strand across the dial and circled by bubbles, representing the ethos of the MGP. This Helix has been crafted in SuperLuminova.

The MGP Odessey is also designed with vertical brushing on its surfaces to provide a crisp finish, accentuating the watch's angular lugs, while the Odessey standard screw-down crown ensures a water-resistant depth of up to 300m (990ft).
Besides the MGP design differences and the use of titanium, the watch is in every way a standard Odyssey free diver with a 40mm case and 120-click unidirectional bezel, also made from titanium. The watch is powered by a reliable and well-made Miyota Cal. 9015 automatic, which beats at 28800bph and offers a 42-hour power reserve.

The dial and hands still offer the famous Odyssey Freediver trademark translucence. The dial is Ombre translucent, and the hands are custom brushed and finished with Swiss Superluminova. All this is visible through professional double-dome Sapphire crystal with AR coating. The case back is a single-piece exhibition screw-down with a custom artwork print. All watches are individually numbered. The lug size is 20mm, and the lug to lug is a neat 48mm.
The dive bracelet is an integrated titanium unit with a quick-adjust buckle and screw-in links.
This watch is a testament to BOLDR's commitment to the natural world, which is already seen in their exceptional field watches. They are proud to endorse the Marine Genome Project and have welcomed its CEO, Daniel Ortega, as a Brand Ambassador.—where style meets substance, and every tick counts towards a sustainable future for our oceans.
