Established with the support of UNESCO and the IUCN, the Charles Darwin Foundation is a global nonprofit organisation that has been leading the way in scientific research and conservation efforts in the Galápagos since 1959. United by a shared mission, their scientists are dedicated to preserving the distinctive biodiversity found in one of the world's most significant natural wonders. Currently, the Charles Darwin Foundation oversees more than 25 projects focused on research, conservation, and education, across both land and sea.

Now in celebration of three creatures typically found on the Galápagos Islands, Casio has partnered with the Charles Darwin Foundation to launch three G-Shock GW-B5600CD watches, each with a colourway inspired by either the hammerhead shark, Darwin's finch, or the Galápagos giant tortoise.

The new G-Shock GW-B5600CD watches are a familiar sight to many, offering the architecture and specs of the standard, solar-charging GW-B5600 model, but as you’ll notice, some new colours and patterns have entered the mix. Each of the trio features a unique design motif based on their respective creature found on the Galápagos Islands.

The first model is GW-B5600CD-1A2 which features a black coated case and a blue sea-inspired display with the hammerhead shark making its appearance around the digital dial. For model GW-B5600CD-1A3, Darwin’s finch is honoured amid green foliage of a Scalesia forest surrounded by its own black housing. Finally, the Galápagos giant tortoise is celebrated through model GW-B5600CD-9 which boasts a bright yellow case and strap and a tortoise shell-patterned display. Silhouettes of each featured creature also appear on the LCD when the backlight is illuminated.

The G-Shock GW-B5600CD watches are still the durable, affordable and shock-resistant solar-powered devices we’ve come to know and love. They feature bezels and straps made with bio-based resin produced using renewable organic resources and weigh only 53 grams. They also sit on the wrist at 42.8mm wide, 13.4mm wide with a lug-to-lug width of 49.8mm.

Inside, there’s plenty of tech to go at. They are equipped with radio wave reception and Tough Solar charging capabilities, world time function, a stopwatch, countdown timer, alarm function, mobile link features and a full auto LED backlight. There’s also a decent water resistant rating of 200 metres.

The G-Shock GW-B5600CD watches give a final nod to their partnership with the Charles Darwin Foundation by adding the organisation’s logo onto the case back of each watch and a Spanish-language statement that reads “I support Galápagos conservation” on the rubber band. The

We’re still awaiting the official retail price of these watches, so watch this space, but Casio have assured that a portion of the proceeds will be used to support the Charles Darwin Foundation’s conservation activities.
