Way back when the UK was warm I took my Blue dial Geckota Steel Edition Sea Hunter out for a hike...

I genuinely love this watch. To me it is the quintessential tool watch which does everything I would ask from such a piece of equipment – and more. Not only is it hugely capable but it looks smart and is priced very competitively. I genuinely believe it is a much underrated machine; with a welcome subtlety and sophistication to the design. In no way oversized or brash, just a simple stainless steel case offset with a deeply rich coloured dial. Our route through the frozen Derbyshire Dales complete with Sea Hunter - Credit WatchGecko
As the 2022 Fall and Winter descended and the leaves changed to amber I had a notion to match my Blue dial Geckota with its Sea Hunter Orange Autumnal counterpart. It seemed like the perfect outdoor watch for the change of season, with a healthy dose of Field and Dive thrown in for good measure. As the Blue dial was my personal watch the obvious plan was to add its Orange sibling to my collection. The watch came as standard on a Jubilee style steel bracelet but being a Military Nylon fan I immediately popped off the bracelet and selected a Vintage Bond strap from WatchGecko to make, what I regard, a truly striking combo!

The Sea Hunter remains a robust weather-resistant and supremely legible watch. That's two of the major qualities for a good outdoor watch secured. The bold white hands and indices stand out against the warm Orange fumé sunburst dial and bring a welcome degree of elegance to what is ostensibly an out-and-about tool watch. The bezel is subtle and is consciously designed not to distract from the dial, yet it retains total functionality and has colour coordinated numerals.

The Geckota Sea Hunter is powered by the robust PT5000 automatic movement made by H.K. Precision Technology. It is a mechanical movement with automatic and hand-winding capabilities, which beats at 28,800 VPH to provide a smooth sweep to the second's hand. The movement has 25 jewels and has very similar specifications to the (increasingly unavailable) ETA 2824-2. Recently, HK brought their highest grade of PT5000 to Glashutte in Germany to have its accuracy reviewed by the Chronometer Observatory where it passed a test which only allows a mechanical watch a deviation ranging from minus 3.8 seconds to plus 5.8 seconds within a day.

The solid steel 40mm case and screw-down crown add to the reassurance that comes with a 200m water-resistant watch and overall, the package has a robust feel without being overly heavy. Sapphire crystal seals the package and allows uninterrupted views of the stunning dial and impressive Super Luminova lume in low light. Geckota Sea Hunter Steel Edition Orange Dial
At £499 the Orange Sea Hunter Steel Edition is a lot of watch for a reasonable price. It is rare to come across a quality tool watch which can instantly transition from smart evening watch to outdoor beater little alteration. On my hike through the frozen Dales my walking partners all comments on how striking the watch was and how, just with a strap change, it had become a competent Field Watch. Whether you select the blue or orange dial the Sea Hunter is in every way a superior go-to daily watch well worth your consideration. Click here to see the full Sea Hunter range.
