London watchmaker Farer has introduced a new limited edition named the Meredith based upon the salmon-coloured Meredith Chrono-Classic launched last year. This time however, the sporty chronograph complication is swapped out for a cream GMT hand.

Farer have never been shy of experimenting with colours; whether it’s their bright mint green Chrono-Contempo, deep purple Chrono-Classic or the unique salmon and grey Durham. The original Farer Meredith is another example, but one that feels like a more mature take on their classic colour-combining formula. Described as copper, the dial is undeniably salmon in its hue reminding us of the experimental dial colours of the 1930’s brought on by the Art Deco movement.

The Farer Meredith GMT delivers the same copper dial as its chronograph counterpart adorned with the brand’s innovative Lumicast markers. These three-dimensional numerals are a clever blend of ceramic and C1 Super-LumiNova. The lume adorns the back and sides of the raised markers, with navy blue placed on top reaching the very edge of the hardware. This creates a stunning backlit effect when the timepiece is placed in low lighting.

The same Super-LumiNova decorates the central hands for the hours, minutes and GMT, the latter decorated in a shade of pink to match the dial. For the first time, the hour and minute hands are sword-shaped and coloured blue while the running seconds is painted copper pink to match the dial. The outer ring of the dial is brushed while the recessed centre is grained and presents the 24-hour scale with its own generous layer of Super-LumiNova. A final, almost unnoticeable trait, is the round, salmon-coloured date window at 3 o’clock.

For the case, the Farer Meredith GMT delivers all the trappings of a smart dress watch. It measures to 39.5mm wide and just 10.8mm thick and is fully engineered from 316L stainless steel. It has polished case sides and a bezel and brushed lug tops. As with all Farer’s watches, the winding crown is inset with a bronze cap embossed with the Farer ‘A’. It’s a signature feature that goes particularly well here with the warmth of the copper dial.
The case is topped by boxed sapphire crystal glass with internal anti-reflective coating. The same material is placed on the case back for viewing the movement inside. The movement in question is the Sellita SW330-2 “Top-Grade” automatic winding movement with 24 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of approximately 56 hours.

A really nice addition for the Farer Meredith is the strap. The brand has elected a dark navy St Venere leather watch band, and while navy blue wouldn’t be my first thought with a salmon-coloured dial, it actually goes really nicely with the dial’s hardware.
The Farer Meredith GMT watch is a limited edition of 150 pieces. 100 models are available now and the remaining will be released in March 2024. The model retails at £1,255.

- When the reviewer would personally wear it: I really like this model, and as someone yet to have a salmon dial in their collection, this is a very tempting purchase. I’d wear it as a dress watch.
