I do love a watch dial that’s a little out of the norm and good news for me, there’s a trend for colourful displays of late. Brands are getting braver and bolder with their use of colours and textures, and NOMOS Glashütte is no different.

The NOMOS Club collection in particular plays host to many shades. The Club Campus is certainly the brightest of the bunch, boasting colours of hot pink, salmon pink, bright orange, electric green and purple. The Club Sport on the other hand (that’s the slightly larger model with a solid steel bracelet) tends to opt for more muted tones. Think of it like the Club Campus is to summer and spring, as the Club Sport is to autumn and winter.

For the German watchmaker’s latest release, we’re treated to three incredibly gorgeous, season-inspired dial colours for the Club Sport model. According to the brand, they are reminiscent of the colours of an Indian summer, or for me a British autumn - but I can understand why the latter may not have sounded quite so appealing to their marking guys. The three models are produced with tabac (dark brown), ember (gold beige) and smoke (light grey) displays, plus a new case size for the Club Sport of 39mm.

The dials are sunray finished and present the generous Club typography around the circumference in a combination of large numerals and baton indexes. Like the two sword-shaped hands at the centre, they are applied with glow in the dark lume. At 6 o’clock, a small seconds dial receives the same colour treatment as the rest of the display plus some additional snailing decoration.

None of NOMOS’ watches are “unwearable”, let’s be honest. They’re all engineered to be slim and stoic with high-end, in-house movements to boot. Of them all, the NOMOS Club has felt like their entry-level design, mainly for their price points and youthful aesthetics. Adding to this again, the NOMOS Club Sport – which has been previously launched in 37 and 42mm diameters – is now engineered in a very wearable size of 39mm.

The stainless steel cases of the new NOMOS Glashütte Club Sport neomatik watches are still wonderfully slim on the wrist at just 8.4mm tall, and present an unadorned fixed bezel and sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on the inner surface. Once again, NOMOS allows you to order the designs with either a closed case back or with exhibition glass for seeing the movement inside. Both options still provide a 200 metre water resistance.

What makes the NOMOS Club Sport stand out against all the others in the Glashütte manufacturer’s portfolio is the metal bracelet. The comfortable, stainless steel strap has three links across, alternating between fine satin and polished finish. It closes by a safety folding clasp.
Finally, the new NOMOS Glashütte Club Sport watches in tabac, ember and smoke house the DUW 3001 automatic winding movement. It’s one of their neomatik calibres, so it’s extremely thin and highly precise, and features the brand’s in-house Swing System. It has 27 jewels and provides a power reserve of 43 hours.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: I’m really enjoying seeing watch brands experiment with new dial colours lately. And of them all, NOMOS is speaking directly to my personal colour palette. I was already tempted by the Club Campus Electric Green model launched at this year’s Watches & Wonders, the one that’s been recently nominated in the “Challenge” category by GPGH. But now, I’m starting to wonder if I need some more autumnal hues in my collection. What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below.
