Every month we bring you our top selection of the Nearly New watches available from WatchGecko.

Normally we like to vary the brands but we are making an exception this month. We're staying with just one brand that we believe is desirable, and these savings are so impressive that they merit a feature.

This is a unique chance to pick up a bargain price Squale 1521.

As a reminder these reduced price watches come from two sources. They are mostly photographic samples which we have pulled from new deliveries to become photo-models. These watches have never been owned and once they have finished their time as in the studio we cannot sell them as brand new, even though some still have manufacturer stickers on them. They still come with a six month WatchGecko warranty and often the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty.

Another source can be customer returns. When we take possession of a return we obviously cannot resell them as new so we carefully look at each watch and decide if it is suitable for Nearly New. Any selected, such as these Squale 1521s are subjected to the same QC process as new watches and also have the same warranty benefits as the photo samples.

Some detail on the iconic Squale 1521

The 1521 name comes from the original reference that company founder Charles Von Buren gave this emblematic watch case back in the 1960s – and it’s been largely unchanged since. Squale was a pioneer in the world of diving watches with the 1521 series being the definition of a classic.  It is a model that has been around for almost 40 years. Regarded as one of the most important diving watches of the 1970's, the 1521 was designed by von Büren himself with his main priority to create an elegant yet robust watch, with radical legibility, that could live up to the high expectations of professional divers of the era.

As a result, Squale watches have been worn on many record-breaking dives. In 1967 Enzo Maiorca achieved an immersion record using a Squale Master, and in 1970 Jacques Mayol set a historic immersion record in Japan, reaching a depth of 76 meters wearing a Squale watch on his wrist.

The Squale 1521 is considered the perfect example of form following function. Details like the protected recessed crown, exceptionally legible handset, and ergonomic uni-directional bezel, combine to produce a true icon amongst dive watches.

The 1521 is powered by the tried and tested Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement for accuracy and reliability in the harshest conditions. What’s more, all models feature a highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and have an exceptional water-resistance of 500 meters.

The reduced price Squale 1521s series are available in two different case finishes: polished and sandblasted and with a choice of dive rubber straps or steel mesh bracelets.

The 1521 has remained largely unchanged since its inception in the 1950s. The design is timeless, and the technical capability remains unmatched today. The 1521 will always be one of the greatest dive watches of all time and this is a perfect opportunity to buy one for under £800.
