With just two sleeps to go until the Olympic Games 2024 Opening Ceremony gets underway in this year’s hosting city, Paris, it seems all eyes are on the French capital. The team here at WatchGecko may have a slight case of wandering eye though as we, as always, have taken a considerable interest in what the Swiss are doing. As the affordable sister company of Official Timekeepers OMEGA, the responsibility falls to Swatch once again to present us with a more accessible take on commemorative watches for the games.
This year Swatch have launched a thematic trio to celebrate the Summer Olympics and each model has been designed to represent a sport played in the games.
Swatch Green Backside Wave
The first of the three new commemorative editions is the Green Backside Wave (ref. SO29G108), which, as the name might give away, is inspired by surfing. Presented with matte dark green dial, white indexes, a playful pink minute track, and glow-in-the-dark white hour and minute hands, this Olympic Games Paris 2024 edition is offered on a green gradient strap with contrasting pink underside and Olympic Games emblem. The strap also features a dark green loop with complementary multi-coloured surfboard print.
Housed in a 41mm bio-sourced case topped with bio-sourced glass, the Green Backside Wave is water resistant to 3 Bar (30m) and is the perfect lightweight companion for a day on the waves.
Swatch Blue Heelflip
The next watch launched as part of the Swatch Olympic Games Paris 2024 Collection is the Blue Heelflip (ref. SUSN420). The most expensive of the collection at £115, the Blue Heelflip takes its place amongst Swatch’s chronograph modes and features a dark blue resin case and matching dark blue gradient dial complete with gold seconds hand and pink, light blue and white accents. Dedicated to the sport of skateboarding, the Swatch Blue Heelflip measures 42mm in diameter and again offers 30m water resistance.
Equipped with an ETA quartz chronograph movement, the Swatch Blue Heelflip is presented with a date display at 4 o’clock as well as three subdials and can be operated using the light blue pushers and pink crown on the right side of the case.
Swatch Purple Rollshot
Finally, we come to the Swatch Purple Rollshot, the most affordable of the Olympic Games 2024 trio at just £67 and also the smallest, with its 34mm diameter. Celebrating beach volleyball and volleyball, the loop of the Purple Rollshot’s strap once again carries the symbol of the sport. Presented with dark purple dial, complementary pink indexes, a white minute track and a day-date window at 3 o’clock, the Swatch Purple Rollshot is offered on a purple gradient strap and is equipped with a three-handed ETA quartz movement.
With prices ranging from £67 up to a somewhat inconsequential £115, the Swatch Paris Olympic Games 2024 Collection certainly provides a more accessible way of taking home some of the action than OMEGA’s far pricier commemorative models.
