Introducing New Bell & Ross "Full Lum"

Bell & Ross’ “Full Lum” watches always conjure up images of space-age, glow in the dark green. Their LUM series, which first debuted in 2017, has used incredibly bright Superluminova not just across the hands and markers, but across the entire dial itself. For the Swiss watchmaker’s latest launch however, things are taken even further. The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Full Lum watch steps out with a full green luminous case.

One of Bell & Ross’ most significant releases of recent years has been their BR 05 collection. Distinctively different from their “circle-within-a-square” pilot’s watches like the BR 01 and BR 03, the BR 05 arrived square cases and round dials paired with integrated bracelets and refined lines worthy of an urban environment. Then earlier this year, the brand combined the integrated architecture of their BR 05 family with the technical prowess of their BR-X1 line.

The new Bell & Ross BR-X5 Full Lum watch offers many of the design traits as the rest of its collection, but it is obviously different for its case material. The case is now engineered from micro blasted grade 2 titanium, finished with a DLC coating, surrounded by an unmissable luminescent fibreglass composite. This material glows bright green in the dark, matching with the equally lime green Superluminova inserts on the dial.

The case measures to 41mm in diameter and 12.8mm in height and delivers a fixed titanium bezel insert with four screws, a matching titanium screw down crown and crown guards and a titanium case back. The back includes a smoked grey sapphire crystal glass window for a view of the movement inside while clear sapphire crystal glass is presented above the dial. There’s a 100 metre water resistant rating and the watch secures to the wrist by an integrated black rubber strap.

Impressively, the dial of the Bell & Ross BR-X5 Full Lum watch glows just as brilliantly as the case. It’s not just the hands and markers that are treated to Superluminova, but the border of the date window, the entire seconds hand and power reserve indicator are also generously adorned in bright green lume. It really is an impressive sight to see when the lights go down.

The layout of the dial is like before. The indices are slightly raised and the hour and minute hands are skeletonised. The power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock usefully warns you of when the three-day power reserve is running low while the curved date window at 3 o’clock reveals three digits at a time, the exact date marked by an arrow on the sloped flange. The dial is black and printed with the Bell & Ross logo at 12 o’clock.

One of the biggest draws of the Bell & Ross BR-X5 collection when it landed earlier this year was the movement inside. The models utilised the Calibre BR-CAL.323 which is a manufacture automatic winding movement made by Kenissi. It comes with a 3-day power reserve, variable inertia balance, a transversal balance bridge and a frequency of 28,800vph. It is also COSC-certified and it comes with a 5-year warranty.
