New Releases

Yema recently shared news on their latest 2021 models and there is truly something for everyone...

We’re a few months into the new year which for fans of watches can only mean one thing. New watch season is beginning! Obviously this time last year things were a little unsettled, but now 12 months later watch brands have been able to plan for this tweaked way of announcing products. It’s going to be an interesting time for new releases with one of the first brands to show their hand being Yema.

Let’s take a look and see what they are releasing for Spring 2021…

The Superman Worldtime

In September 2020, YEMA announced the launch of its new in-house calibres (YEMA2000 & 3000). This movement was added to a new GMT for the brand launching on Kickstarter with a campaign bringing in nearly €2 million. Yema unveils the new Superman Worldtime equipped with the new in-house calibre. With a 42h power reserve, the Superman Worldtime is designed with oversized hour markers for extreme readability and available in 2 versions (Coke/Steel) & sizes (39mm/41mm).

Initial impressions

This thing looks beautiful. I love the juxtaposition of the elegant bracelet and case construction with thick, chunky dial details such as those large lumed markers and beefed up GMT hand. The steel bezel on steel has such a barebones, raw look to it whereas the red and black bezel introduces some sporty warmth.

I also love the tweaked bracelet on these models. It’s almost an oyster bracelet and a president bracelet merged together. A great start!

The Yema Meangraf Super

Next up, Yema is bringing the legendary model, Meangraf, back to life. Designed in the late 60s and early 70s, the Meangraf was immediately noticeable with its unique design enabling the easy calculation of a vehicle’s average hourly speed. This time, the Meangraf Super is back in 3 different dial designs and is powered by a Seiko VK64 Mechanical-Quartz movement, a hybrid of a quartz and mechanical movement ensuring greater accuracy and performance.

As you’re probably starting to notice now, the 1970s is clearly an era of inspiration for Yema this year with the Meangraf Super being the model to lead this new focused attention. It's been expected that the 70s will have its moment and these releases along with others from different brands seem to suggest its happening.

This is a great looking watch with a ton of character. It jumps straight out of the history books and onto your wrist for an extremely approachable price tag.

The Yema Yachtingraf Bronze

Inspired by the first Yachtingraf from 1966, this new bronze model is a limited edition run of just 200 pieces. Instantly recognizable with its colourful regatta, the Yachtingraf Bronze Limited Edition will accommodate a Seiko NE86 movement. Regatta watches were primarily used for the sole purpose of assisting in tracking the 15-minute countdown before the regatta race began, however, nowadays they offer an unusual splash of colour and detail on a watch that is hard to find elsewhere. Specifications:

Case width: 40mm
Movement: Seiko NE86 automatic chronograph
Functions: Hours, minutes, seconds, date, chronograph, running seconds, elapsed minutes
Power reserve: 45 hours
Case: brushed bronze
Dial: matt black with regatta countdown register

I love regatta watches. I believe it's down to their unusual compilation that is extremely useful for such a specific sport and the fact these watches traditionally introduced more unique colours to dials. Whatever it is, I just love these niche tool watches ,so it's brilliant to see Yema invest in their own history in making regatta watches with this new limited edition.

Bronze is always a popular choice for limited edition watches and with a 40mm diameter, this watch looks like it will wear very well. The elegant hands and delicately applied hour markers really finish off the dial for me.

The Yema Superman Maxi Dial Blue

With its oversized index ensuring extreme readability in all circumstances and its neo-vintage look, the new Superman Maxi Dial Blue is designed for all professional and diving enthusiasts. Immediately recognisable, this new timepiece will be equipped with our new in-house calibre the YEMA2000, This new "No-Date" version has no date or phantom date position on the crown. Its two-tone dial highlights seamlessly its oversized hour markers. This model’ design is actually based on Yema’s recent collaboration with Worn and Wound which you can see here.

Specifications:

Case width: 39mm/41mm
Movement: YEMA2000 no date
Functions: hour, minutes and seconds
Power reserve: 42 hours
Case: stainless steel
Water-resistance: 300m
Dial: two-tone blue
Strap: stainless steel bracelet, black rubber or leather

Price: starting from $929
Availability: pre-order from 25th March 2021 via yema.com

This looks gorgeous in blue. As mentioned above, we first saw this dial design recently via Yema’s work with Worn and Wound on their limited edition, however for me this is the one that really does it. Once again we see touches of 70s Yema design with the beefed-up hour markers and overall increased dial detail. Based on the images supplied this watch looks like a cracking summer watch option. And let's be honest, the no date look is just too pleasing to the eye to not fall in love.
