Oris take the pilot's watch to the next level with their latest ProPilot...
When Oris released their Calibre 400 in 2020, they showed the world they were looking to be a serious contender in Swiss watchmaking. As I'll get onto later in the article this in-house movement offers a host of impressive specifications. Since then, they've been steadily releasing versions of their key models equipped with the new calibre. The latest model to get this treatment is the Oris ProPilot X, which will be available in three colours, blue, grey, and pink.

How The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Wears
The case is a very wearable 39mm, with a 47mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of 12.1mm. These dimensions sit in a sweet spot that makes the new ProPilot X perfectly sized for a wide range of wrists. The case is the same angular design as used for the older Big Crown ProPilot X Calibre 115, and I think it's one of the strongest features of the watch. The sharp angles and engine turned bezel are very contemporary, and in an industry that's often drawing on past products for inspiration, it's refreshing to see a thoroughly modern design.

What's more, the case and bracelet are made from titanium so the ProPilot X Calibre 400 is ridiculously light on the wrist. The ergonomics don't end there though, as the large screw-down crown is very easy to grip and use.

The dial is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has a texted blue-grey surface with printed white markers. It's an understated design that offers excellent legibility. The same can be said for the handset, who's flat brushed surfaces stand out easily against the dial. Oris chose to position the date window at 6 o'clock, a decision I really appreciate as it maintains the symmetry of the dial.

A Look At The Calibre 400
If you flip the watch over, you'll see that the watch has a display case back through which the Calibre 400 can be seen. Bar the Oris logo on the rotor, the movement lacks any decoration, but the calibre's specifications more than make up for it. As I mentioned at the start of this review, the Calibre 400 boasts an impressive set of specifications. It has an impressive 5-day power reserve and a 10-year warranty for starters. In addition to this the movement is accurate to -3/+5 seconds a day and resistant to magnetic fields of over 2,000 gauss. This puts the Calibre 400 on par with the in-house movements being released from higher end brands like Tudor.

Final Thoughts
Overall, the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 is an excellent choice for anyone after a watch that's exceptionally impressive, but that doesn't shout about it. With a titanium case, 100m water resistance, and the impressive Calibre 400 ticking away inside it, there's not much more you could want from the ProPilot X. And Oris have managed to delivery all that in a watch with a very contemporary design that will work in just about any situation. It's neither too formal, nor too casual, but instead sits at a happy midpoint that makes the watch very versatile.
