Longines Refresh the Pilot Majetek with Limited Pioneer Titanium Edition

3 min read

Having launched their popular Pilot Majetek model to the public just last year, Longines have announced an expansion to the collection with the addition of a limited-edition Pioneer model. The new Longines Pilot Majetek Pioneer Edition is chronometer-certified by the COSC and appears in Grade 5 Titanium for the first time, with a dark grey and black design. This time around the release will be limited to just 1,935 pieces, a clever nod to the year the original Longines Pilot Majetek was released.

As one of many Longines precision instruments worn by pioneers during daring historic exploits, the Pilot Majetek model was initially registered with the International Bureau of Industrial Property in Berne, Switzerland, back in April 1935. At the time of first release, the watch was specifically designed for use by aviators of the Czechoslovakian Air Force but having garnered popularity with the public over almost 90 years, the St Imier’s brand revived the model for the first time just last year, making it possible for watch connoisseurs to take home their own slice of the brand’s rich history.

Paying homage to the original, 1930s professional-grade model, the renewed Pilot Majetek was aesthetically pretty similar to its big brother, despite its now upsized 43mm cushion case. The re-worked Majetek’s rugged, toolish design has captured the hearts of more than a few enthusiasts in its time in the public sphere and it is now joined by a sleek limited-edition counterpart.

The most dramatic, un-deniable difference between the Majetek Pioneer Edition and the existing Majetek models is the use of Grade 5 Titanium. Sleeker and lighter than the steel used in the initial models, the Titanium works in offsetting a little of the Majetek’s bulk. Considering this is a vintage-inspired pilot watch we’re talking about, it was never going to be a lightweight option but, whilst it does share the 2023 renditions 43mm case size and considerable 13.30mm thickness, the use of Titanium is naturally going to make this a slightly more wearable option. Particularly for those out there who aren’t so keen on the modern models robust, nearly square, cushion case-style design.

The Longines Pilot Majetek Pioneer Edition is waterproof to 10 bar (100m) and powered by the exclusive Longines calibre L893.6 which has been equipped with a silicon balance-spring as well as anti-magnetic resistance and can offer a 72-hour power reserve. The entire watch is COSC-certified and decorated with matt black grained dial and Arabic numerals which have been treated with bluish luminescence. Accentuated by the railway-style minute track and baton hands that skim overtop, the dial is finished with oversized sub-second dial which is recessed at 6 o’clock.

Arriving on a black fabric strap in a special Heritage box, the Longines Pilot Majetek Pioneer Ediition is available for purchase now on a 1,935-piece run. You can find more information here.
