Not too long ago, we reviewed WatchGecko’s Best GMT Watches and, naturally, Nodus made their way onto the list with their Sector GMT. Capable of simultaneously tracking three time zones, the Contrail GMT collection is set to be the latest addition to a three-generation line-up of Nodus travel watches.
Designed as the ultimate travel watch, the Contrail was named after the vapor trails left behind in the sky by journeying planes and was originally developed to fit the needs and preferences of Team Nodus as they travelled the world in their earlier years of business. Now in their seventh year of operation, with ever-changing needs and a growing international customer base, the latest iteration of the Contrail has new boxes to check.

Taking the essence of its predecessors and elevating it with a sleek and versatile design, the Contrail GMT’s redesigned case offers a significantly thinner profile despite housing the Miyota 9075. Offering style, functionality and comfort on the wrist, the distinctive features of the original Contrail remain intact with easy-to-read dials in three distinct finishes.
The Laguna and Terra dials return to deliver a fan-favourite with sand-grain textures that mimic the look and feel of Earth’s terrain, whilst the Impulse dial, with its intricate sunburst effect dial is reminiscent of the sky, with brushed steel hands aptly gliding across the dial in the way of an aircraft. Finally, a simple white dial, clean with a matte finish to enhance readability in bright environments with the help of contrasting finishes and accent colours on the hands that cut through the dial like a plane through clouds. Each dial incorporates a newly designed GMT hand with an oversized tip made up of one half of the Nodus chevron logo.

Well-proportioned and designed to suit any wrist size, the Contrail GMT is offered in a 39.5mm 316L surgical-grade stainless steel case with a luminous sapphire insert displaying a 24-hour scale for seamless tracking of three time zones at once. Enhanced legibility is ensured thanks to a generous helping of BGW9 Super LumiNova on the indices and hands, and the minute hand extends to the minute track for precise timekeeping with just a glance.
Equipped with Japanese precision in the form of the Miyota 9075 flyer-style GMT movement, the Contrail GMT models offer a thin and wearable case without jeopardizing water resistance (which is rated to 200 metres). Impressively, the Contrail GMT is now the thinnest GMT on the market with this movement.
