Distinguished by its bold yet practical design, the Mountain Rescue Edition features a high-contrast dial with large bold numerals and indices for easy readability, even in low-light conditions. What sets the Canford Mountain Rescue Edition apart are its specialised features tailored to the needs of mountain rescuers. The uni-directional timing bezel allows for precise measurement of elapsed time, while the robust construction ensures durability in the face of extreme environments. Get the dial in the right light and you will notice the subtle MREW (Mountain Rescue England & Wales) cross and logo ghosted onto it.
Additionally, the watch comes equipped with a highly reliable Swiss quartz movement, providing accurate timekeeping in any situation. The screw-down crown and case back enhance water resistance, while the anti-reflective coating on the domed sapphire crystal minimises glare, allowing for optimal visibility during rescue operations.
The 44mm marine-grade stainless steel case is well-finished and houses the Swiss-made Ronda quartz movement, offering a 3-year battery life and ensuring accurate timekeeping in any situation. The movement is protected by a steel and elastomer-damped shock-absorbing system, so you shouldn’t have to worry about dropping it. With water resistance to ISO2281 and individually tested to 200 meters (20 bar), this watch is ready to accompany you on any aquatic adventure. The watch boasts a black dial with a date aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock, complemented by bold SuperLuminova Arabic and baton indices, and hour, minute, and second hands.

The internal rotating bezel is adjusted by the top crown that sits at 2 o’clock and a SuperLuminova marker surrounds the dial, offering additional functionality and visibility. Both crowns are signed and triple-sealed and feature finely detailed knurling to help with your grip.

With the 22mm EPDM black rubber strap, the watch remains intact and comfortable even in extreme temperature changes, fastening with a wide tongue-signed buckle. The bolted-down compressor case enhances water resistance and durability.
Although this is a very good-looking watch, don’t be put off, as it’s as rugged and robust as you would need for any mountain rescue. A donation of £36.00 from every sale will be donated to MREW, to help towards vital equipment which is a nice touch from the brand and outlines their commitment to honouring those in positions of emergency service.

I have had the pleasure of wearing this for a week or so and am really impressed with the dial. Through that domed crystal, it is so clear and easy to read. At low light the lume is a joy, as it feels almost magnified under the crystal and jumps out at you. Personally, I would have preferred a less polished flatter case finish, as I feel it’s a bit shiny for my taste, but there will be plenty of appeal for Elliot Brown enthusiasts. I do love the internal bezel, as it has the look of a vintage super compressor-style watch of yesteryear. I also find the lack of an external bezel quite appealing, as most of the watches I own are divers and few offer such a large aperture through which to see the dial.
In conclusion, the Elliot Brown Canford range, with its Mountain Rescue Edition, represents the epitome of rugged sophistication and purpose-driven design. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a professional rescuer, or simply someone who appreciates finely crafted timepieces, the Canford range offers a blend of style, functionality, and durability that is second to none. With the Mountain Rescue Edition on your wrist, you carry with you not just a watch, but a symbol of courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
