It’s a new year and with that Zenith add a new star to their constellation; the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon. ZENITH deliver two new versions, a steel option, and a black ceramic option, which incorporate a new automatic high-frequency tourbillon calibre into the already popular DEFY Skyline collection.

Long associated with the most elite levels of fine watchmaking, the integration of the tourbillon mechanism is a testament to the skill of ZENITH’s watchmakers. Suited to daily wear in any situation, the ZENITH Defy Skyline Tourbillon’s movement operates at a high-frequency rate of 36,000 VpH (5Hz) and ensures enhanced chronometric performance and greater shock resistance.

Once again paying homage to the earliest DEFY timepieces from the 1960’s, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon is housed in a faceted and geometrical 41mm case. Blending the modernity of the mechanical animation of a tourbillon movement with the historic bold architectural design of the DEFY Skyline collection, the Tourbillon models are offered with matching bracelet in either stainless steel or black ceramic.

On the dial’s lower portion, the central kinetical element is visible, echoing the core of a galaxy surrounded by countless constellations. The tourbillon, turning infinitely around its own axis, completes one revolution every minute and the case maintains water-resistance up to 100 metres (10 ATM). Adapted exclusively for the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon, the DEFY’s usual sunray-patterned metallic dial now accentuates the high-frequency tourbillon.

The new El Primero 3630 automatic high-frequency manufacture calibre powers the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon models, with a reserve of 60 hours and a mosaic of engraved four-pointed stars appears to radiate out of the tourbillon at 6 o’clock, wither in blue for the steel edition or black for the ceramic edition. Adding contrast to the dial are luminescent applied markers and hands, and the open-star shaped rotor allows for an awe-inspiring view of the modern movement architecture.

With similar futuristic lines to those found in other DEFY references, the tourbillon cage assumes the shape of an open four-pointed star and reminds us of the brand’s commitment to encouraging their wearers to “reach their star”. With ZENITH’s manufacture of timepieces dating back to 1865, this is a brand who have served extraordinary individuals as they dreamed big and lived boldly. ZENITH encourages their modern-day wearers to pursue their dreams against all odds in the very same manner.
