For Watches & Wonders 2025, Montblanc has caught the eye with four exciting new pieces that expand on their existing collections with some very pleasant special editions.

For their first trick, Montblanc has unveiled a new piece in their Geosphere collection that pays tribute to legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner, and his ascent to the highest peak in Antarctica in 1986.

The fact there are 986 pieces in this limited-edition collection is a nod to the year of his ascent of Mount Vinson, while coming in a larger 43.5mm titanium case that is directly inspired by the mountain landscape. Its icy blue and silver colour is a nod to the colour of glacial ice, while the middle of the case features a lumed outline of Mount Vinson that glows blue in the dark.

The dial features an intricate glacier pattern with a blue-green and light grey sfumato glacier pattern that Montblanc says was created with a special, time-consuming technique called gratté-boisé. It takes four times longer to make a dial this way than in more standard means, and results in a deep and complex finish.

As one of Montblanc's Zero Oxygen pieces, it also benefits from having no oxygen inside the case to both prevent fogging and oxidisation to make it more usable with the drastic temperature changes that occur at altitude.

This piece is powered by Montblanc's Caliber MB 29.25 movement, which features a worldtimer complication as well as a day-night indicator on the two 3D globes on the dial. It also has a date indicator and dual-time indication present.

The strap here marks the first time a piece in Montblac's 1858 collection has utilised an interchangeable rubber strap, which features a mountaineer's rope motif to keep in with the alpine theming.

Alongside the Mount Vinson limited edition, Montblanc has also introduced the Geosphere Annual Calendar Limited Edition into the 1858 collection that features both an annual calendar complication (hours, minutes, seconds, date, and month indications) and a worldtimer for ultimate functionality.

The annual calendar features a large date at 12 o'clock just above the Montblanc logo, with a selector at 2 o'clock. The months are in an outer ring around the dial, with a red arrow pointing to the month in question for legibility; this is also a nod to the Roman goddess Minerva, who was known for carrying a red-tipped spear, as well as an internal nod to being featured on early Minerva aviation chronographs in the 1920s and 1930s.

The piece is available with a 42mm case, in a choice of either Lime Gold 750/1000 (30 pieces) or stainless steel (100 pieces). Both come with fluted bezels as a callback to Minerva's heritage, with the Lime Gold model coming with a bezel with matching materials, while the steel version has a white gold bezel.

Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date 'Distressed'

The 41mm Iced Sea Automatic Date model also arrives with a new distressed look to its stainless steel case with its deliberately weathered appearance that is achieved by brushing the steel with quartzite from the Mont Blanc mountain range in the Alps. The distressed case also comes with a black ceramic bezel to match.

To go with the distressed look, there is a grey glacier pattern dial that is made using the same technique as with the Geosphere Mount Vinson limited edition. It also comes with Montblanc's zero oxygen tech for preventing fogging and oxidisation at higher altitudes.

It is powered by Montblanc's MB 24.17 movement, complete with date complication at three o'clock, and comes with a 38 hour power reserve. It comes on an interchangeable black leather strap, with both taper and fine adjustment.

Those who already own an Iced Sea model can return their watch to a Montblanc boutique or a Richemont centre to arrange an upgrade to have this zero oxygen tech, starting April 2025.

Montblanc has also announced a smaller version of the Iced Sea Automatic Date, with it now coming in a more restrained 38mm case size, where previously it was only available in 41mm.

To go with it, there are also two new glacier dial colours in white and light blue, to truly hone in on the ice theme. The dial's intricate glacier pattern is made with the clever gratté-boisé technology.

They are also offered with Montblanc's clever zero oxygen technology and come with the choice of either a colour-matched rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet. It is powered by Montblanc's 24.17 movement, with a date complication and up to 38 hours of power reserve.
